BIO

A few years ago J Alston sold his car and moved to Atlanta with no money and dreams of a successful rap career. He worked tirelessly at perfecting his craft through daily writing or studio sessions and hundreds of live performances. It wasn’t long before Alston was opening for major rap acts like T.I., Gunna, Chief Keef, K Camp and Rich Homie Quan. Soon he linked with other talented creatives in the city and formed a tight-knit rap collective called Free Air Free Water.

Music journalists and those most familiar with the rap upstart describe J Alston's musical style as a hybrid between rap superstars DMX and J Cole. If you ask Alston himself, he will describe his approach as putting "medicine in the candy". Heartfelt themes of purpose, faith, and hope are delivered with visceral and vulnerable vocals over hard-knocking trap beats. In addition to his one of a kind vocal tone, J Alston's songwriting prowess is another superpower in his arsenal. He's put this on display by penning a hit for an Epic Records recording artist and his 2018 placement in a Nike Elite Hoops Basketball campaign.

J Alston is working on the upcoming release of Trap Preacher and Manifest, a collaborative album with Australian producer Sirpreme.
